One year, I ran out of traditional bows while wrapping Christmas presents. I tried to think of things I could substitute for a bow, and then I looked up origami bows. This was the most creative that I found, and it’s fairly easy to create.
My mother loves butterflies, and since I have an obsession with origami, I thought, “Why not make her a butterfly out of paper?” It couldn’t be that hard, right? Wrong. This piece challenged me, and the end result is not exactly what the tutorial pictures. However, I like to accept the fact that I tried, and the piece I created is now uniquely mine. Or, rather, my mother’s. This was the second origami piece that I attempted to create. Thankfully, it wasn’t as hard as the magic star. It takes one full piece of letter size paper. This is a great piece to create, because if you make the box big enough, you can put the other origami inside this one! So, your origami will now be organized. I made this for my mother one year as a bonus birthday gift. Just like the magic star, this rose can transform. In the picture, you can see that on the left it is in a rose form. However, if you compress the flower pedals and leaves, it will eventually transform into a square box. Gently tug on each side of the box to get it back in the rose form. I learned how to make this from my friend, Jessica. It was actually a big reason we became friends in the first place. Who would have thought that origami can bring people together? Certainly not me. This is created with two square pieces of paper, and it rather simple to create. This was the first piece of origami I ever attempted to create. It was a bad decision, because it was difficult. Never ever start off with difficult origami. Start with easier folds, and then progressively make more complicated ones. I spent many days hunched over my desk frustrated at these eight square pieces of paper that seemed to never fold the way I wanted them to. With a friend’s help, however, I finally got it made, and now I can make them in only a few minutes. If you look at the picture of the magic star, you’ll see that from left to right it starts out as a star, but if you gently tug on the middle pieces, the star will transform into a wreath-type shape. This is created with one full letter size piece of paper. Couldn’t you see this as inspiring? I can! The following is a video tutorial if you are interested in creating the piece yourself. |
